I have a small block Chevy 350. Non-computerized. Edelbrock carburetor and intake. HEI distributor. Just put a new intake on. A new distributor. Also new cap rotor plugs wires. The problem is the HEI coil has burn marks on the outside of it. When I was turning the distributor to time it. I was getting shocked out of the screws for the coil dust cover. It's definitely not coming out of the plug wires. It ran fine during warm-up. Then it just misses.

I would suspect the coil is defective. Do you have an older unit that you know is good? Coils fail so rarely, I'd make sure it's bad before replacing it but if you have a new coil it may be a manufacturing defect. If you're reusing an older one, it may not be compatible with the new parts. There are other things it could be like a bad ground but I'd swap a known good part in before just throwing money and parts at the problem.

I think you miswired the inside of the distributer.
